Maharashtra FDA Seizes 3.53 Lakh Kg of Food Worth Rs 9.01 Crore in Festive Crackdown
Maharashtra FDA has seized food products worth Rs 9.01 crore during a festive season crackdown, including 2,279.7 litres of Patanjali ghee. With 13 FIRs, 16 arrests and 19 suspended licences, the enforcement drive is intensifying across the state.
The action against food businesses violating safety regulations was carried out across the state as part of an intensive enforcement campaign. The seized products included food items allegedly adulterated or misbranded, prompting the FDA to take strict legal action against those responsible.
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the FDA seized Patanjali-branded ghee worth approximately Rs 20.20 lakh from Divya Mahavitarak, a super distributor. The ghee has been accused of adulteration and misbranding.
In separate operations, FDA teams seized 1,44,218 kilograms of edible oil from Avenue Supermarts in Bhiwandi and 20,560 kilograms of food products from Amin Traders in Satara.
The four-day special inspection drive was conducted between October 28 and October 31. During the campaign, authorities initiated stringent legal action against those found violating food safety laws.
According to the FDA, a total of 13 FIRs have been registered across Maharashtra so far in connection with the action, while 16 accused persons have been arrested. Seven shops and establishments were sealed after serious irregularities were detected. Additionally, six vehicles were seized as part of the enforcement drive.
